Curtis Watkins
President, East Capital Center for Change, Inc.
Curtis Watkins is the President/Founder of the East Capitol Center for Change servicing youth and families within Ward 7 & 8 in the District of Columbia. Mr. Watkins grew up in the East Capitol community. Today, he plans and directs the day-to-day activities of ECCC to improve the quality of life for community residents. Mr. Watkins has been providing leadership and quality programs for youth and adults since ECCC�s inception in 1997. He has received several community service awards for his commitment to reach the so-called unreachable. In 2000 Housing Urban Development agency recognized the East Capitol Center for Change Brother and Sisters Apprenticeship program with their Best Practices Award. As spokesperson for ECCC, he coordinates public relations and oversees special events for community residents. Mr. Watkins is often featured speaker on issues related to youth development, family strengthening and community development before Senate and House committees, city agencies, businesses, local think tanks (e.g. Brooking Institution) and at national and local conferences.
Mr. Watkins provides oversight to grants from nonprofit and public agencies such as the US Department of Health and Human Services, the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Center for Neighborhood Enterprise. Previous to founding ECCC Mr. Watkins served as the purchasing manager of the National Association of Realtors.
