Peace X Peace and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation were named winners of the 2008 NPower Greater DC Region Technology Innovation Awards.

D.C.-based NPower, a nonprofit technology consulting firm, partnered with Accenture to create the awards in 2005.

Nonprofits that were nominated for the awards were split into two categories based on annual budgets.

Peace X Peace, with an annual budget less than $2 million, created an online program that connects women across cultures to share best practices and build sustainable peace.

With a budget of more than $2 million, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation created a system to combat limited infrastructure and slow internet connections in 18 countries. The result was improved data quality, availability and precision, according to NPower.

The charities will each receive $35,000 in technology services, including a technology consulting plan from NPower, Microsoft software, and $1,000 in cash.

“Peace X Peace and the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation both demonstrate how all charities can use technology to fulfill their missions and dramatically increase their impact in our communities. We are thrilled to recognize them with this award,” said Katherine LaVelle, NPower board chair and managing partner at Accenture, in a statement.

Runners-up for 2008 included the Posse Foundation and the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association Foundation.
