President

Julie Chapman brings more than 20 years of experience in the technology industry plus a deep commitment to community involvement.  Julie spent 10 years at MCI Communications in Washington DC, first in strategic planning and later in product and marketing management at MCI Mail, the predecessor to MCI's internet business.  She founded The InfoWorks Group, a successful marketing and management consulting firm specializing in information and online services.  InfoWorks clients ranged from early stage start ups to market leaders including America Online and Verizon.  During this period, she also served on the Board of Directors of the Information Industry Association.

Julie joined CareerBuilder.com in its early stages to build a successful affiliate program, including partnerships with USA Today, BusinessWeek and NBC.com.  After leaving CareerBuilder.com Julie co-founded 86.com, which provided online ordering for the $536 billion US food service industry.  She helped the company raise $7.5 million in venture capital and led all operational aspects of the business, transforming an entrepreneurial vision into a viable business.

After folding 86.com, Julie used a planned sabbatical from the technology world to volunteer for various organizations including Technology Works for Good, NPower's predecessor organization.  She joined the organization as Interim Executive Director in the fall of 2002 and was hired permanently in early 2003.

Julie graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in Urban Studies and has an M.B.A. from Columbia University.  She lives in Montgomery County, Maryland with her very patient husband of 20 years David Cushing, her two teenage daughters Kate and Anna, and her very large dog BlackJack.
