Vista Member/Technology Consultant
NPower Greater DC Region has an approved position for the CTC Vista Project. The CTC VISTA Project places Americorps*VISTA members with non-profit organizations across the country that utilize information and communications technologies to address the needs to low-income and at-risk communities.
VISTA ROLE(S):
NPower Greater DC Region is looking for a VISTA member who has some technology expertise and has the desire to work as part of the NPower team and share that expertise DC area nonprofits. Because technology skills vary so much, and because NPower provides wide range of technology services, we are open any VISTA member with IT skills. The VISTA member will be a "Technology Consultant" and be a part of the NPower DC Tech Team. Our Technology Consultants are involved in the following activities:
- On site visits to nonprofit organizations to participate in technology assessments and hands-on IT implementation (both hardware and software)
- Access and work with the machines (workstations and servers) of our clients through our remote access maintenance service called NPower ON!
- If desired, prepare and conduct workshops on technology issues for area nonprofits
- Handle calls from our nonprofit clients that address both current technology issues and future IT planning
- Assisting nonprofits with both current and long term technology needs, planning, budgeting and implementation
- Research IT topics of interest and relevance to nonprofits, and make recommendations as appropriate
- Participate in all NPower DC staff meetings, Tech Team activities, and other meetings or events that may be on interest to the VISTA member.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS:
Recommended (but not mandatory) Skills and Qualifications for
NPower Greater DC region VISTA Technology Consultant:
- Good network and infrastructure support skills, ideally includes desktop W2000 and W2003
Desktop management skills, including W2000 and WXP - Basic knowledge of firewall solutions, both software and hardware;
- Strong troubleshooting abilities, including working with persons to diagnose and resolve problems
- Good support and administration skills for Exchange 2000, Exchange 2003; Design experience a plus
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Ability to manage customer expectations; must have a strong focus on customer satisfaction
- Basic project management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills (a writing sample will be requested)
- Interest in traveling around the greater DC area (including VA and MD)
- Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required
- Basic understanding of the nonprofit sector a plus
